Transitions

Fall, the bridge between the joys of summer and the bitter entrapping’s of winter. It is a time that often brings dread because colder days are upon us, signaling the end of the carefree days of summer and calling back to the grind of work. However, there is a beauty in change. As the leaves morph from their lively green to the vivid hues of gold to red it allows for a time of reflection on the year gone by.

The state of transition is not only limited to nature, however, like the fall, this transition can occur within ourselves. When we are faced with opposition, we often only see the bleakness of what is ahead, the difficulties we believe we must face until we can have those carefree days again. Lingering on the impossibility of the task ahead can cause us to be paralyzed, but by taking a moment to pause and reflect on the past we can learn from it. Through this moment of stillness, we expose ourselves to the potential within us. When faced with a situation that causes great apprehension, pausing for the briefest moment may allow us to approach the situation with an open mind. Then, often a path will be discovered that may allow for new opportunities to arise. Now this doesn’t mean that it will be an easy path, however, if pursued, it may allow for greater personal growth. These moments where we step out of our comfort zone allow us to discover the potential we have within ourselves and through continually pushing the boundaries of our comfort level, we continue to develop our personal identities and how we interact with society.

Transitioning in life is difficult, whether it be starting to live on your own, dealing with an uncomfortable experience, or some other aspect of life that makes you want to stay put, but by taking that jump we experience the world around us and eventually learn to keep the transitional phase in perspective while knowing that someday we will be back to those carefree summer days.
